Our goal
We want everyone to be able to use Carestead, including people who use a screen reader, a keyboard instead of a mouse, screen magnification, voice control, or other assistive technology. That covers this website, the Carestead app for church staff and members, the Bible games, and the church websites we host.
We are working toward WCAG 2.2 Level AA of the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines. That is the standard we measure ourselves against, not a claim that every page meets it today.
How we work on it
- Changes to Carestead run automated accessibility checks before they are released, on the pages and on the components they are built from.
- Automated checks find only some problems, so we also review screens ourselves for keyboard use, focus, contrast, and how they read aloud.
- We check new pages with automated accessibility tests and fix what we find, and we update this statement when what we know changes.
Known limitations
These are the problems we know about and are working on:
- Bible games: some colors do not yet have enough contrast. The white text on the green “go” button is hard to read at its smaller sizes, and so is white answer text on the green “correct” highlight.
- Church websites: each church writes and uploads its own content, such as photos, videos, and documents. Our editor asks for an image description when a photo is added, but what it says, and whether a video has captions, is up to the church.
Tell us about a barrier
If something on Carestead is hard or impossible for you to use, please email [email protected]. It helps us most if you include:
- the page address, or what you were trying to do;
- what happened, and what you expected to happen;
- the device and browser you used, and any assistive technology, such as a screen reader, with its version if you know it.
A person reads every report. We will reply to let you know we have it and what we plan to do. How long a fix takes depends on the problem, and we will keep you updated while we work on it. If you need something from a page you could not use, tell us and we will help you get it another way. If the problem is in a church's own content, we will let that church know too.
